Spruce Meadows wraps up its summer season with the "North American" show jumping tournament, which runs July 7 - 11, 2010 in Calgary, Alberta.

The Spruce Meadows Equestrian Facility concludes its summer tour with the Spruce Meadows North American Show Jumping Championship®, to be held July 7 - 11, 2010 in Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Spruce Meadows 2010 "North American" Events

The "North American" is one of show jumping's top events, with a total purse in excess of $900,000. The best equestrians in North America will compete in this tournament, such as Canadian champion show jumpers Ian Millar, Jill Henselwood, Eric Lamaze, Keean White and Beth Underhill.

Teams participating in the “North American” will compete in all five of the show rings at Spruce Meadows throughout the course of the tournament: Rocky Mountain, North American, Meadows on the Green, All Canada and the International Ring. Some of the events they will compete in are the Parcours de Chasse, the Grand Prix and the Jump Off.

The Parcours de Chasse is a speed competition in which teams work their way through and obstacle course as quickly and as cleanly as possible. Knock-downs are converted into seconds, adding to their completion time.

In the Jump Off, teams traverse through a difficult course with up to eight obstacles. Knock-downs result in faults. The team with the fastest time and least number of faults wins.

The showcase show jumping event is the Grand Prix course. Competitors attempt to complete a course with as many as eighteen high-level single jumps as well as double or triple combination jumps.

Attending the 2010 Spruce Meadows "North American"

General admission to the Spruce Meadows "North American" is $5.00 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the entrance. Seniors and children 12-years old and under are free. Gate admission grants access to all areas of Spruce Meadows. Rush seating is not guaranteed, however reserved seating tickets are available at a premium. Pets are allowed to outdoor tournaments if well-behaved and on a leash.

Complimentary parking is available in Lot #2 off Spruce Meadows Trail SW. Horse jumping fans can also take advantage of the complimentary shuttle bus, run by Red Arrow. The shuttle will be available on Friday to Sunday and runs every 15 - 20 minutes and takes attendees from the Somerset/Bridlewood LRT station directly to the tournament grounds.

As Spruce Meadows is an outdoor facility, "North American" attendees should dress for the weather. Daysheets, with the competition order are available at information booths and green houses. Attendees of the 2010 "North American" can enjoy family entertainment throughout July 9 - 11,2010. The International Marketplace, located west of the International Plaza will be filled with a wide variety of unique products and services and showcase works from local artisans.
