Daevas are getting into the spirit of the World Cup by playing the Atreia Summer World Cup for the chance to win prizes such as laptops and in-game items.

NCsoft’s MMORPG Aion: The Tower of Eternity is a popular MMO where gamers choose one of two playable races; The Elyos or the Asmodians. While game play is much the same as other MMO’s with the basic classes of tank, healer, dps and scout classes, Aion has offered unique aspects to this game. The first being the introduction of PvPvE (player versus player versus environment) and even more exciting the introduction of player wings and the ability for in flight combat.

A visually stunning world with extensive character creation customization, Aion offers great opportunities for both Rpers (Role-Players) and the PvPers. Aion was released in North America in September 2009 and doesn’t appear to be losing momentum, however, some gamers are unhappy with the ‘ganking’ that goes on in the game and some have cancelled their subscriptions. Ganking is when a group of players gang up and kill a smaller group or individual, or when a higher-level player kills a much lower level player.

The issue of ganking is that the opposing faction can enter a player’s home turf and ‘gank’ them while they might be innocently questing, or just harvesting. While starting zones are free of PvP, many other zones are not so, there is a risk of unwanted PvP, with many players complaining of being ganked by several level 40-50 players, while they are questing in level 20 areas. Complaints of lack of fairness in PvP are common, and it is sometimes safer to quest in the Abyss, the designated zone for PvP combat and taking over fortresses, rather than home zones.

Perhaps because of these types of complaints, Aion developers continue to add content and events to keep current subscribers and to entice new gamers.

The Atreia Summer World Cup

To coincide with the FIFA Soccer World Cup, NCsoft has introduced the Atreia Summer World Cup allowing players to play a browser-based Flash game with the chance to win prizes and in-game items.

Gamers need to have Adobe Flash Player installed to play. Then players select their representing country and playing as a winged Mumu, leap into the air to try and score a header goal. Prizes include a laptop, optical mouse, Asmodian mouse-pad, and in game items like black and white dyes and cans of Tutty ‘N’ Beans.

Submitting scores and being the top player can win prizes, and there is a daily raffle as well as a raffle at the end of the World Cup. Players must hurry as the Atreia Summer World Cup will finish midnight June 25th, 2010. To submit scores and be eligible for prizes, gamers must be residents of USA, Canada, or Europe, though some states are exempt. Visit Atreia Summer World Cup for information or to play. Gamers from other countries can play just for fun.
