Festival Showcases Unique Stories
The Other Israel Film Festival is known to bring unique stories to the big screen and feature narratives and documentaries focusing on community and identity, social and women’s issues. Films being screened tend to be the unknown stories, often autobiographical to the filmmakers.
The Promise
This year’s festival films include the U.S. premiere of the BAFTA-nominated British drama: The Promise, a mini-series depicting the British viewpoint on the founding of the State of Israel as holders of the mandate occupying Palestine.
Naomi and Dolphin Boy
The festival will also premiere award-winning films such as Eitan Tzur’s thriller, Naomi, a film that has received world-wide acclaim for its subtle, social critique combined with suspense and comedy.
Among the festival’s award-winning documentaries is Dolphin Boy, brought by directors, Dani Menkin & Yonatan Nir; a film which follows the long recovery of a teenage Arab boy suffering from PTSD after being tortured by his classmates for sending a text message to a girl in his village.
The Human Turbine
Another film being screened, The Human Turbine, by director, Danny Verete documents Palestinian villagers in Susia and Jews working together to provide resources and amenities that neither the Palestinian Authorities nor Israel offer.
