On Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, the successful all-female pop band, The Bangles, performed on the hit ABC reality competition, Dancing With the Stars, as part of "80s Week." The show was televised live from Hollywood, California.
Dancing With the Stars is co-hosted by Tom Bergeron (best known for hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos), as well as Brooke Burke, who is a model and the Season 7 Champion of the dancing competition.
Background on the Band
The Bangles is a trio of female vocalists and instrumentalists that is comprised of Susanna Hoffs, as well as sisters Vicki and Debbi Peterson. Most recently, on September 27, 2011, they released their newest full-length album Sweetheart of the Sun, their first record in almost eight years.
The Bangles Performed "Eternal Flame" and "Walk Like An Egyptian"
The Bangles opened the show with a medley of their chart-topping songs from the 1980s. They commenced with their smash ballad "Eternal Flame," where Susanna Hoffs sang lead, and Vicki and Debbi joined her on backing vocals, as well as acoustic guitars. In the meantime, three pairs of professional dancing couples, dressed in white, danced on the ballroom floor.
Following “Eternal Flame,” The Bangles immediately broke into their signature song "Walk Like An Egyptian," where Vicki took the lead.
The professional dancers returned and danced in the style of Egyptians. This classic vocal inspired the three Dancing with the Stars judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli, to get on their feet and dance along.
The Bangles Sang "Manic Monday"
Following the medley of hits in the beginning of the show, The Bangles came back to perform yet another fan-favorite tune from the 80s.
"So right now, with one of their best love hits ‘Manic Monday,’ please welcome back The Bangles," said co-host Brooke Burke.
Susana Hoffs resumed her role as lead singer on “Manic Monday,” while Vicki and Debbi joined her on harmony; in the meantime, Debbi was superb on drums.
Two professional dancing partners danced along to this beloved song from the 80s.
Conclusion
In summation, all three of their vocals were well-received by the celebrities, dancers, as well as the entire audience in the ballroom, garnering The Bangles a huge standing ovation.
The Bangles are currently out on the road touring to support their latest album. They are performing their hits, both new and old. The second leg of their national tour is expected to begin on November 5, 2011, in the West Coast.
