The kitchen is no longer just a space for cooking but is often the hub of the house. LG has developed a refrigerator to meet the needs of the new family room. Not only is it a sleek looking appliance that keeps your food cold, it houses a TV and an information center to help your home become more organized.
Entertaining Fridge
LG’s newest side-by-side refrigerator houses a 15-inch standard-definition LCD TV that makes the prospect of slaving over a hot stove a lot more appealing. For use with cable or satellite television, the LG refrigerator has a coaxial cable output behind the right door hinge. An RG-179 cable (67 feet long) is included for easy installation. The TV refrigerator can also be used with any DVD player or VCR that has a coaxial output. With an FM radio tuner, two speakers, a remote control, and a built-in TV tuner, this is a snappy entertainment unit. Of course it's not geared to be a home theatre and after getting used to our big screen TVs, a 15-inch model can cause some eyestrain.
Fridge Information Center Specs
The refrigerator includes an information center with features including:
- date and time
- calendar with alarm
- weather forecasts
- 100 pre-loaded, eight-category recipe bank
- personal photo album that can be uploaded via a USB port
- child-lock function
- room temperature display
- user manual
For those of us who are technologically challenged, getting to know how to use all the fridge's functions can be frustrating. But once you get them down pat, this gadget will be your new best friend in the kitchen.
Even without the technological hoopla, this is a remarkable fridge. At just over 25 cubic feet (combined fridge and freezer) and bearing an Energy Star rating, this appliance comes with innovative storage that utilizes every square inch of space.
The LG TV Refrigerator line incorporates LG's new SpacePlus Ice Maker technology which makes ice in the door instead of in the top of the freezer section. This increases freezer storage capacity while still delivering the convenience of an on-the-door ice dispenser. But like all units with ice makers, a portion of storage space in the freezer is eaten up by the ice making unit.
Fridge Cooling System
Equipped with an advanced cooling system, the refrigerator completely shuts off heat from the television so it does not transfer to the food inside. It also steps up the antibacterial feature of the unit, using nano particles of silver that promote “wellness”. The effectiveness of this antibacterial feature, called Bio silver and Bio shield, have been confirmed by international public accreditation agencies, such as the U.S. FDA and EPA, the ISO, and Japan’s SIAA.
LG Appliance Hub
If you have other hi-tech LG appliances, the fridge works as a server, controlling all of them from one location. This is in line with LG’s vision of networking appliances.
Available in a titanium finish, the current model of LG's TV fridge is available at most appliance retailers. Of course all this technology and funky gadgetry comes with a price tag, one higher than most other fridges for sale in the appliance section. But with your new TV fridge, you'll never want to leave the kitchen and cooking will never be the same ever again!
