When a college student takes a job with a wealthy businessman, she ends up with more than she expected.

Vanessa Marcil stars as Kate, a busy student working on her teacheing degree while taking care of her ailing father, working part time, and tutoring kids at her church. She never complains about her busy life. Instead, she takes everything on with a cheery attitude.

Nanny Duties

After losing her job, Kate goes to work for David Chandler (Brennen Elliott), a widower with two children. Emily and Ben (Natalie Dreyfuss and Uriah Shelton) are a handful. They have already gone through a couple dozen nannies. Their conspiracies to run the nannies out of their lives are frustrating to David, but because their mother died three years ago, he knows they are still struggling with their loss.

Kate is unlike any nanny they have ever had. She takes their crap and doles it right back at them. She is determined not to lose this job. As a matter of fact, she is eager to keep it. She feels she can help the two kids. After all, she lost her own mother when she was a teenager so she sympathizes with them.

Ben comes around and really enjoys her company, but Kate has a difficult situation with Emily. Emily is a spoiled, pampered brat and treats Kate like a maid. But Kate sticks with it. Every night when she returns to her home where she takes care of her father, the two discuss her day. Her father (Dean Stockwell) advises her to stick with it. He knows she was brought into their lives for a reason.

This is a predictable story, but Vanessa Marcil makes it one that is enjoyable to watch. Kate’s patience is remarkable. And what widower would not fall for this beautiful and perky woman? She’s smart, caring, interesting, and devoted.

Stacy Keach co-stars as the reverend who is Kate’s ally and who reminds her that she was once in the same shoes as Emily.

Whether it’s dealing with several inches of soap suds on the floor, being locked out of the house, confronting the pet rat, or handling burnt meals, Kate sticks with it. Marcil is wonderful in this part. She is easy-going and viewers will sympathize with her life.

A Modern Day Sound of Music

This is a modern-day The Sound of Music, without the music. Kate and Maria von Trapp are very similar and have to endure many of the same tribulations while earning the trust and friendship of the children. And, like the classic film, there is a budding romance between nanny and widower.
