Monday June 20th 2011 in the Manhattan Penthouse in New York; the New York Festivals announced the world’s best radio work for the year. The award winner’s gala honoured radio creative work in radio programs, advertising and promotions across a truly international stable of winners.
NYF Grand Trophies:
Gold, silver and bronze winners this year were presented with a new trophy, in an Art Deco style as the organisers say; “reminiscent of the 1920’s radio microphone.” The New York Festivals Grand Jury for 2011 awarded three Grand Trophies to:
- KUT 90.5 FM Austin Texas
- Pirate Group Inc., Canada
- RTE Ireland
Grand Trophies from the New York competition in radio are highly prized international awards and come with a great deal of kudos for their recipients. This year, the winning entries respectively were chosen by the jury from:
- Culture and Arts Category;
- Business and Consumer Issues Category and
- Profiles/Community Portraits Category
RTE also took home 8 Gold Awards, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze, 2 Finalist Certificates as well the Broadcaster of the Year Award.
The Categories of Awards
For over 50 years, the festival has been honouring outstanding creative work in the field of radio programs and promotions broadcasting and hopeful entrants can choose to enter their work in a number of different categories including:
- News Programs, News Reports and Features, Information and Documentary
- Entertainment Programs and Specials, Talk Programs and On-Air Talent
- Various Program Formats
- Promotions, Station IDs, Online, Satellite, Podcasts
- And Student, and Craft categories
In all these categories, competition is increasingly competitive each year with original entries from radio stations, networks and independent producers with entrants from over 30 countries. Winners are awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards or Finalists Certificates in most of the categories.
The New York Festivals Radio Awards 2011
The Grand Jury comprises of radio industry professionals literally from all over the world, from radio stations, radio companies and groups. This year in June 2011 they made the following awards in these award categories:
- 36 Gold Awards
- 42 Silver Awards
- 46 Bronze Trophies
- And 59 Finalist Certificates
As well as the Grand Trophy winners, to name just a few of the other recipients, they included winners like:
- The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
- ESPN
- GMG Radio from the UK
- Australian Broadcasting Corporation
- British Broadcasting Corporation
- Radio France
- Radio Netherlands Worldwide
The winners are truly a world wide representation of radio professionals and practitioners. The Judges likewise represent the radio industry all over the world including the organisers say:”Directors, Producers, Writers, Reporters, Program Directors and various other radio professionals from across the globe who volunteer their time.” Judging is completed on-line.
