With a warm, subtropical climate and stunning beaches, Jeju Island is one of the top tourist destinations for Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese alike. This volcanic island in the Pacific offers many fun and relaxing activities for anyone traveling to Korea.
Hyeopjae Beach
Part of the beautiful Hanrim Park, the Hyeopjae Beach features gorgeous white sand and an almost 10km coast of blue water surrounded by green forests. As with every beach on Jeju, Mt. Hallasan, the volcanic mountain, is visible from Hyeopjae.
A few caves open to tourists, as well as an aboretum, can also be found in Hanrim Park.
Trio of Waterfalls
Jeju Island offers several stunning waterfalls for hikers. These spots are rife with legends and mystical stories of healing powers, nymphs, and gods; each an ideal spot for a romantic excursion.
The Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is 22 meters high, with naturally formed bridges made of volcanic rock that provide the perfect background for a picture. This waterfall is accessible by walking on a landscaped trail, which includes a bridge.
The Cheonjeyeon Waterfall (spelled almost identically to the first) consists of three-tiers, a spectacular sight. The third most famous waterfall on Jeju Island is Jeongbang, which is very close to the Sojeongbang Waterfall. Here there is an observatory, which offers a beautiful view of the ocean.
Seongsan Sunrise Festival
While there are several ideal spots to watch the sunrise and sunset on Jeju Island, this festival has taken place on New Year's Eve and Day every year since 1994.
The Seongsan Sunrise Festival takes place on Sunrise Peak (Seongsan Ilchulbong), a harbor that is hailed as a must-see attraction.
Manjang-gul Cave
The longest lava tunnel in the world is available for tourists to explore. This incredibly deep cave was created by lava from an eruption at Mt. Hallasan a long time ago. Despite the hot summer temperatures on Jeju Island, this cave is always chilly and damp.
Shopping in Jeju
Jeju Island offers several shopping complexes and markets, particularly in the Jeju Folk Arts Complex and an area known as Tap-dong. Most tourists are drawn to the local items available, and there is a wide variety of traditional Jeju arts and crafts, jewelry, clothes, leather goods, dolls, and instruments.
Loveland
For adults tourists only, Loveland is Korea's only erotic theme park. Loveland opened in 2004 and features sexual sculptures and a sex toy exhibition hall, complete with a gift shop.
