Chocolate, one of the most decadent tastes on earth, sometimes jokingly being described as a food group of its own. In this article you’ll find three decadent dessert recipes that have been in this author’s family for literally generations. You’ll find Chocolate Mint Brownies, Chocolate Covered Cherries, and Crazy Chocolate Cake. These are so rich and delicious they’ll please a sweet tooth every time.
What is it about chocolate that's so thoroughly attractive? Is it the smell, the texture, the taste? Is it the comfort and pleasure? For many it's the memories of enjoying something so luxurious and sweet with a good friend, whatever the reason for each person is, be sure to try these three desserts.
Chocolate Covered Cherries
- 1/3 cup butter (softened to room temperature)
- 2 cups marshmallow fluff
- Dash of salt
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 36 maraschino cherries
- 1 package chocolate chips
- 2 Tablespoons melted soy wax
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
Cream with a mixer butter, the beat in marshmallow fluff, salt and almond extract. Add powdered sugar gradually. Turn out onto a board and kneed until smooth. Chill for 1 hour. Drain cherries and towel blot dry. Wrap each cherry in the chilled fondant mixture then freeze. Melt chocolate chips and soy wax (or other edible wax), then dip each frozen wrapped cherry and place on waxed paper. Store in a container in the refrigerator.
Crazy Chocolate Cake
Put all the following ingredients in a bowl:
- 3 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 6 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 Tablespoons vinegar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 cups cold water
- 2 eggs
Beat all with a mixer then bake at 375 degrees in a greased pan for 35 minutes. Frost with any flavor of frosting you desire once cake has cooled. Very quick and easy cake that is super moist every time.
Chocolate Mint Brownies
Mix together the following:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs beaten
- 1 cube butter
- 1 16 oz can chocolate syrup
Pour into a greased pan, bak e at 325 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Cool.
Now mix together:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cube melted butter
- 2 Tablespoons crème de menthe liquor
Spread over brownies and chill in refrigerator until cold.
Now melt:
- 12 oz bag of chocolate chips
- 1 cube butter
Spread this mixture on top of mint layer and chill in refrigerator.
Allow brownies to set at room temperature 30 minutes before cutting. When cut into bars they are very pretty with the green mint layer in between the chocolate layers, so serve them in a way that all can see.
