Excite USA issued a recall on military toy copters. The kids' product was found to pose a risk of cuts to children using the item.

From information released by the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Excite USA recalled a children’s product on June 10, 2011. Reports were received that the toy copters could injure kids during normal use of the item. In an effort to warn as many consumers as possible, the U.S. CPSC also issued a product warning.

Toy Military Copters Recalled by Excite USA

The kids’ product listed under the recall was the Military Copters. The children’s item was sold only at Rite Aid stores across the United States. The toy helicopters were available from January 2011 to May of the same year. The children’s copters could be purchased for about $7.

The children’s military toys were painted in a black and tan camouflage color. There were two copters packaged in each set. The large helicopter was about 11 inches in length. The second, smaller copter was about seven inches long. There were also two black launchers in the package.

The package had a clear plastic front so consumers could view all of the pieces in the set. A green and blue board set the background for the package. The name of the children’s product was printed in blue letters near the top of the package. On the back of the packaging, consumers could locate the item’s bar code. The UPC, “6801080444474” and model number, “9009935” were printed near the bar code.

Defects in Children’s Military Toy

Excite USA released the information that three reports were received based on normal use of the kids’ product. Two reports were directed to the company and one report was received by the CPSC. Of the three documented reports two listed cuts caused by the copters.

The defect found on the toy helicopters was that the blades can detach during play. The flying blade could cut the child using the item. The broken blade could also pose a hazard if a sharp edge is exposed and the child is left unattended.

I enjoyed this article! These days, many toys have been determined to be unsafe, thus unsuitable for children to play with. We, as consumers, are now at a time when we can no longer assume that any product that we buy is safe. My daughter and I recently discovered that the crib she had bought just two months ago has been recalled. If it would hadn't had been for the fact that we check all of our products on http://www.wemakeitsafer.com, there is no telling when we would have found out about the recall. As a mom of a seven-year old, I am glad that I found your article. Toy helicopters have always been one of his favorites.
