2010 list of recent toy recalls: Fisher-Price infant toys, trikes, and toy cars. Also: Bathtub toy, stacking toy, drum set, giraffe blanket, and more.

When a toy or other product has been recalled, the first thing you should do is to take that toy away from your child. Why take a chance? You are responsible for that young life, so it’s a good idea to pay attention to recalls and to keep up with the latest discoveries.

It’s impossible for someone like me, as concerned as I am about small children, to give you a completely comprehensive list, but here are some toys of which you should be aware. Note: Not every recalled toy is on this list.

Fisher-Price Toy Recalls

Fisher-Price has recalled over 10 million products in 2010. These include:

  • Trikes
  • Infant Toys
  • High Chairs
  • Toy Cars and Ramps

I would like to say that I have respect for Fisher-Price. Most of their products are great, so I would not avoid this company altogether. My daughters loved Fisher-Price toys.

Unsafe Fisher-Price Toys

If you have one of these Fisher-Price infant toys with inflatable balls, you should immediately remove the inflatable ball from the toy. The valve on these balls can detach and pose a choking hazard. Contact Fisher-Price for a free replacement kit. Affected toys include:

Other potentially-hazardous Fisher-Price toys:

  • Fisher-Price Little People Wheelies Stand ‘n Play Rampway (Wheels come off. Choking hazard.) Take the purple and green cars away from children. Contact Fisher-Price for free replacement cars.
  • Fisher-Price Trikes: Potential injury from a child sitting or falling on the protruding plastic ignition key. (Barbie trike is one example. Other trikes have the same problem.) Take the trike away from child. Contact Fisher-Price for free replacement key.
  • Fisher-Price Tough Trikes Toddler Tricycles: Same as above.

More Toy Recalls

Here are some of the other toys that have been recalled in 2010:

  • Bathtub Subs Toy Recall, from Munchkin, Inc., poses a laceration hazard to children. The intake valve on the bottom of this battery-operated submarine toy has a water pump that sucks in water and can cut your child’s skin. You should take the toy away from your children and contact Munchkin to return your submarine for a free replacement toy.
  • Animal Crackers Giant Stacking Toys by One Step Ahead: Fabric covering stacking ring comes apart exposing foam material inside. Foam is choking hazard. Take toy away from child and contact One Step Ahead for a $50 gift certificate.
  • Step2 Basic Rhythms Drums: Small piece breaks off and is choking hazard. Contact Step2.
  • Giraffe Security Blankets: Balls on giraffe's horns can detach. Choking hazard. Remove blanket and contact Rashti & Rashti for a full refund.
  • Auto Fire Toy Target Set: Toy dart is choking hazard and has resulted in deaths. Sold by Family Dollar Stores.
  • Nirve Bicycles: Bicycle stem on the handlebars can crack leading to loss of control.
  • Flower and Insect Painted Wooden Beads by S&S Worldwide Inc: Lead paint.
  • Allreds Design Baby Bracelets and Pacifier Clips: Lead exposure.
  • Pull A Long Friends Toucan, Alligator, and Sharky: All have wooden components that break off to become choking hazard.
  • Tiny Love Windchime Toys: Windchimes come apart and cut your baby.
  • Wilton Youth Tiara (SKU 120 - 228) contains high amounts of lead and is a silver-colored item with clear crystals. Contact Wilton.com for a refund.
  • Discovery Kids Animated Marine and Safari Lamps: Fire and burn hazard.
  • Special Forces and Police Swat Toy Gun Sets: Choking hazard.
  • UPDATE: Rocking horse toys from Rocking Horse Depot: If you have a rocking horse with a leather Rocking Horse Depot emblem on the side of the saddle, cut or remove the reins immediately as they are too long and pose a strangulation threat. Contact rockinghorsedepot.com for further instructions. (There are several different styles of rocking horses that are affected.)
  • UPDATE: Horse-On-A-Stick Toys: The reigns on the Horse-On-A-Stick toy are too long and pose a strangulation threat. Cut or remove the reigns immediately and contact BigIdeasMarketing.com.

Note: I have made every attempt to show the correct photo of each toy, but you should double check your toy by product ID number and not use my photos as your only reference. Many of these products look similar, with only slight variations, so if you have a product that looks about the same as the one in my photos, please check your product.
