Short Second Life of Bree Tanner - Hachette Book Group

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner - the first new title from Twilight author Stephenie Meyer in nearly two years - will be released Saturday, June 5.

This new 192-page novella, told from the point of view of Bree, a character originally featured in Eclipse, is the first new title from bestselling Twilight author Stephenie Meyer in nearly two years. The novella was originally conceived as a short story meant to appear in The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide but in the end, Bree’s tale grew too long to be included in the guide.

A New Novella for Twilight Fans

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, will be releasing a first printing of 1.5 million copies of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner this Saturday. Devoted fans will finally be able to able to sink their teeth into new material from the popular author and to thank them, Stephenie Meyer will grant fans access to an online, English-only version of the novella on a dedicated Bree Tanner website from June 7 to July 5.

“I’d always considered The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner as something for the fans,” said Meyer. “They have been so supportive of all things Twilight.” (As quoted in a press release from The Hachette Book Group.)

In Support of the American Red Cross

One dollar from the U.S. sale of each book from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, and visitors to the Bree Tanner site will be able to make a donation to the fund via a link to the American Red Cross website.

“I have been moved by the generous outpouring of support for the recent crises in Haiti and Chile,” said Meyer. “I am glad that sales of this book will support the American Red Cross with their amazing efforts abroad.”

Newborn Vampires

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: an Eclipse Novella tells the story of Bree, a newborn vampire first introduced in the novel Eclipse. In the novella, fans follow Bree’s adventures as she forms a vampire army and begins to wreak havoc in Bella Swan and Edward Cullen’s already tumultuous lives.

"Bree is the only newborn mentioned by name in Eclipse, the only newborn who has contact with the Cullens (aside from being killed by them), and the only newborn who encounters the Volturi in the clearing," says Meyer. "She lives the longest, so she is the narrator who can tell the full story."

Print copies of the novella will be released this Saturday, June 5 at 12:01 a.m.; the e-book will be available starting at 6:00 a.m. EST on June 5, 2010. According to the Hachette Book Group, more information on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide will be available by the end of the year.
