If you are ready for a break from the romantic tales where opposites attract and the princess finds her prince, then the following titles might intrigue you. These are great gifts for an entertaining Valentine's Day, offering love, with a twist.

Love Hurts

Ben is in a funk. After 20 years of marriage, his wife, Amanda (played by Carrie-Ann Moss), has left him. It's a hard decision for her, but he is no longer the man she married. Ben Bingham (played by Richard E. Grant) quickly realizes that Love Hurts. Fortunately, his son Justin (Johnny Pacar) is there to help him pick up the pieces. Soon Ben discovers that bachelorhood has some benefits. As he's realizing this, Justin is realizing that it isn't so great having a dad constantly painting the town. It's a true case of role reversal.

Love Hurts from Pageant Productions, LLC stands out among other films for its in-depth exploration of relationships. That makes it sound stiff and boring, but it's anything but that. As you view the film, you'll find yourself laughing out loud on a regular basis. That said, you'll be thinking about love, relationships, and marriage for days after viewing. The film carries a strong message that there is nothing like true love and a solid family bond.

HeartBreaker

Alex has a very interesting job in the film, HeartBreaker . People hire him to break up relationships. A good guy at heart, he only does this if the woman is unhappy. And he only has one hard and fast rule, he never falls in love. Sometimes rules are made to be broken, however. He finds this out when he is hired to break beautiful young heiress, Juliette, away from her fiancée 10 days before the wedding.

Actors Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis are fine actors that make their characters believable in this French film with English subtitles from MPI Home Video. Director Pascal Chaumeil has a knack for setting up scenes that entertain and engage the viewer. Even when the storyline is predictable, the viewer still wants to see more because it's a treat for the eyes and the situations the characters find themselves in are highly entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the antics of Mélanie (Julie Ferrier) and her husband Marc (François Damiens) as they helped Alex out of some seriously tight spots. Great acting.

Happy Ever Afters

The bride and groom are falling in love in Happy Ever Afters . Unfortunately, the bride is from one couple, and the groom is from another. The two meet after they discover that they booked the same reception hall at the same time on the same day.

Love is seen from several different angles as a young girl tries to get herself a father, couples try to come to terms with commitment, and fictional relationships are formed to fool immigration officials. Perhaps one of the most captivating features of this film from Ifc Independent Film is that the characters are so real that they remind you of you, yourself, or at least people you know. The human interactions carry a great message that love is there for everyone, it's just a matter of finding it.

See You in September

What do you do when you have issues with commitment, and you discover that your therapist is heading out of town for an entire month? Lindsay doesn't want to wait to find out in See You in September . Using Craig's List as an advertising tool, she creates a group whose members help support each other throughout the month, in spite of a series of entertaining mishaps. In this group, Lindsay meets AJ, who suffers from fears of abandonment. The two make a unique pair since she can't commit, and he can't be abandoned. Together, with the help of the group, they make it work.

This comedy from Maya Entertainment is bound to draw a few giggles from you. It's takes a refreshing look at love from different angles. Promoting respect, the film shows the strength of friendship, even when things aren't perfect. There are some ends left dangling at the end of the film, but strong acting from Estella Warren, Michael Rispoli, Whoopi Goldberg, and Justin Kirk still make the film worth watching.

Dallas: The Complete Fourteenth Season

It's the end of the road for the series that took the world by storm back in the 1970's. This DVD set wraps up 14 seasons of passion, crime, and greed. Dallas: The Complete Fourteenth Season from Warner Home Video offers a feature-length finale that was inspired by It's a Wonderful Life. Starring Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, George Kennedy, Ken Kercheval, Howard Keel, this DVD set offers a nostalgic journey back in time to a soap opera that gripped viewers for over a decade.

These five films are perfect for Valentine's Day and other romantic occasions. They are not the typical chic flick so they keep you guessing and entertained.
