You'll never believe what's NOT in this vegan tofu chocolate mousse recipe. There are no eggs and no dairy - just rich chocolatey goodness.

This has got to be one of the easiest - but most rewarding - treats ever made. It's dairy-free, egg-free, and free of animal products. But it tastes rich and satisfying like a chocolate mousse should.

Vegan Chocolate Tofu Mousse Recipe

Serves 6

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 package soft silken tofu (~12 oz)
  • 10 oz. chocolate chips, about one small package. Many dark chocolate chips are vegan; check the ingredients for dairy products if milk ingredients are a concern.
  • 3 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract, optional

Directions:

  1. Let tofu come to room temperature.
  2. Using a food processor, blender, or hand mixer, blend tofu until just smooth.
  3. In a double boiler, melt chocolate chips with a tablespoon or two of water over low heat. Stir constantly.
  4. Add maple syrup to melted chocolate and combine until smooth.
  5. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Stir.
  6. Put chocolate blend into food processor, blender, or a large bowl, and mix with tofu until creamy.
  7. Pour into very small serving dishes - this pudding-like mousse is rich. Serve warm or chill until set.

Serving options:

    • Fold in a half-cup of non-dairy whipped topping at the end
    • Garnish with cut fruit, or use the mousse as a dip for apple and banana slices
    • Pour mixture into a vegan graham cracker crust and chill until set
    • Use as a chocolate fondue dip for graham crackers
    • Use as icing for cake or cookies

How do you get the tofu smooth? Mine never seemed to smooth out no matter how long I beat it.

i use the silken style tofu (I think its made by Mori Nu - its in a tetra pack) not the stuff in the fridges. This tofu is really smooth and turnss creamy within seconds in a food processor (i don't hand beat cos i'm lazy) :)))

Cool, but is it actually *fluffy*, which I think a mousse should be, or just a tasty but unfluffy dessert, as most vegan choc "mousse"s seem to be?

Sooo good! I added about 7 tablespoons of raspberry vodka instead of water, and did it progressively as the chocolate melted. It came out with just a hint of raspberry and was delicious!

Use a food processor instead of a blender to get it smooth.
