Ten years ago, Mac disappeared without a note or a goodbye. Yet, he still calls home every Mother's Day. His now-grown sister wants to find him, but should she?

Every day, Carolyn MacKenzie wonders what became of her brother, Charles (called Mac) who disappeared ten years earlier, when she was just a child. He left no note and no clues to where he might have gone, yet every Mother's Day he calls. This year, much to her mother's and their friend and financial advisor, Elliott Wallace's chagrin, she has decided to find him. She blurts her intentions out to Mac on the Mother's Day call.

Finding Mac

Days after her outburst, her uncle Devon, who happens to be a priest at the nearby parish, brings the family a note found in the collection plate, presumably from Mac. "Uncle Devon, tell Carolyn that she must not look for me," it reads. Of course, that makes Carolyn even more determined to locate her brother. Her mother is not so sure. She is finally ready to take the advice of friends and let the pass stay the past.

Is Mac a Murderer?

Carolyn's first visit in her quest is at the local police station. The detective couldn't be less interested--that is until a young woman goes missing near Carolyn's apartment in circumstances eerily similar to those surrounding the disappearance of two other women over the last ten years.

A barrage of circumstantial evidence seems to paint Mac as a potential murderer. Could that be why he has remained hidden all of these years? Carolyn, however, refuses to believe it--a stance that will put her and those she cares about in danger.

Where are you Now? is vintage Mary Higgins Clark--a well-crafted, fast-paced thriller, with well-developed characters and a host of plot twists and turns. She writes in her publisher's bio that she begins a novel by writing profiles of her characters. That attention to detail shows and sets her work apart from other recent best-selling authors. Where are you Now? is a very readable, albeit at times disturbing, novel--one of the best of the season.
