Winter Teas

Winter blahs can become extraordinary treasures when you host a warm winter tea for friends.

Winter blahs? Too much snow and cold and not enough sunshine? There is nothing like a warm tea party with friends to solve the winter doldrums. Instead of wishing cold, and sometimes dreary days away, let’s try and solve the problem by inviting friends to share in a warm cup of tea.

My friend Bev chose to “do something” about winter and hosted a “White Winter Tea”. The prelude to her event was an elegant white invitation with splashes of glitter and pale blue lettering.

White Winter Theme Tea Ideas

As each woman arrived, she stomped her feet in Bev’s foyer to remove snow from her boots. Bev laughed as she began to predict the comments: “Thanks for having a tea to warm us up.” The table was lovely with white china, candles, tablecloth, and gold accents. Her carefully planned menu included several white foods: scones with white chocolate chips and white Devonshire cream, traditional tea sandwiches on white bread and white chocolate mousse.

Everything was delicious, and of course, she served white tea. As we gazed out the patio doors facing her back yard, the weather, the inspiration for her tea, added to her theme. The small accumulation of snow was just enough for us. One of the women commented that the evergreens and the bark of the deciduous trees made a contrast so that we could really enjoy the brightness and beauty of the snow.

As you plod through winter, can you do something about it? Invite friends in to share a cup of tea and friendship. Teas don’t have to be elaborate or time consuming in preparation. Make your load lighter and ask women to share in providing refreshments for your menu or use deli and commercially made products.

Winter Tea for Late Winter Holidays

White winter is a theme to continue throughout the season, but if you want to stretch your creativity, February holds lots of special days to host a tea. Use your imagination and plan a tea party around:

  • Groundhog Day
  • Charles Dickens Day
  • Susan B. Anthony Day
  • Thomas Edison’s Birthday
  • Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday
  • President’s Day
  • 100th Day of School
  • George Washington’s Birthday

These give you plenty of opportunities for splashes of color, creativity, learning new things and enlarging your circle of friends. Yes, you can stay warm, even when the forecast reads single digits and several inches of snow. Tea and friendship mixed with natural winter beauty gave us an extraordinary treasure in what could have been an ordinary winter day! It’s was a warm and winning combination, regardless of the temperature reading.
