Writing Prompts For the First Week of April
April 1st – Today is April Fool's Day. If you could play a practical joke on any celebrity, who would you choose and what joke would you play on them?
April 2nd – Trees have one ring in their trunk for every year of their life (or thereabouts). How many rings will you have when you are chopped down and which rings will be your favorite?
April 3rd – Does it really take a village to raise a child, as the saying goes? Why or why not?
April 4th – If you held a seance and could talk to anyone who was dead, who would you want to chat with and what would you discuss?
April 5th – Environmental issues are a hot topic with many people. What new law should be passed in order to protect the planet for future generations?
April 6th – How can sports and politics mix?
April 7th – You have been given millions of dollars to fund research for a disease. Which one would you pick and why?
Writing Prompts For the Second Week of April
April 8th – You're in the midst of an operation and the anaesthetic wears off but you are unable to let the anaesthesiologist know. There are another 6 hours left in your operation. What will you think about to pass the time?
April 9th – Does Atlantis exist? Why do you believe it does or does not?
April 10th – The Nobel Prize is awarded every year for the categories of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. Which category would you be most apt to win the Nobel Prize in and what would it be for?
April 11th – The four day work week is an idea that has been tossed around over the years. Which do you think is the best working alternative and why - working 9-5 Monday to Friday or working ten hour days Monday through Thursday?
April 12th – The passenger elevator was invented in 1857. How do you think our lives would be different today if the elevator had never been invented?
April 13th – How do you think AIDS has changed people's lives since it was first discovered?
April 14th – You are a voyager who has set off for a new land. You discover an uninhabited, previously unknown island. Tell me about your island - what is on it, how big it is, what you'll name it, and how long you'll stay, among other details.
Writing Prompts For the Third Week of April
April 15th – Cloning is a reality in our modern technological world. Dolly, the sheep, made history. Would you like to be cloned if given the opportunity? Why or why not?
April 16th – What does the book industry look like in 50 years?
April 17th – Women in industrial countries make approximately 80 cents for every dollar a man makes at the same job. When do you think women's earnings will be on par with men and what do you feel the current inequality is from?
April 18th – If you are married, would you like the opportunity to be single for a week with no fallout? If you are single, would you like the chance to step into a marriage for a week?
April 19th – Gossip can be vicious and leave long-lasting scars. Turning that around, what nice words would you say to someone that you aren't fond of?
April 20th – You have to invent a new language for a place you are moving to that doesn't have a language. What will your language be and share some of your vocabulary words.
April 21st – Colors have a lot of power. What effects do they have on you? Which ones do you like best and why? Which are you not fond of and why?
Writing Prompts For the Fourth Week of April
April 22nd – What aspect of the upper class would you most embrace if you inherited a very large sum of money?
April 23rd – If you had to have a career as a designer, which one of the following would you choose to be: fashion designer, interior designer, graphic designer, web designer, jewelry designer, furniture designer, or a video game designer. What would your job entail?
April 24th – The Earth's population is growing at a rapid rate and it is getting more challenging to keep up with the demands of the almost 7 billion people on the planet. As a result, many countries have implemented population control measures. What is your opinion on governments limiting the number of children people can have?
April 25th – Are you for or against the legalization of marijuana? Why?
April 26th – Which of the Wizard of Oz characters are you the most like; the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion, or Gilda? Or perhaps Toto? Explain.
April 27th – What are your thoughts on the tough love method of parenting?
April 28th – Problems with neighbors are commonplace as our neighborhoods grow more crowded and people's stress levels increase. In a recent case in Canada, a man cut off his neighbors hands with a Samurai sword. What issues with your neighbor would drive you to such drastic action?
Writing Prompts For the Last Few Days in April
April 29th – You are getting an addition built onto your current home or apartment for a writing space. What does the space look like and what will you fill it with?
April 30th – Looking back on your writing progress in April, are you satisfied with what you accomplished? What can you do to get closer to your writing goals next month?
