March is a glorious month. The weather is changing and you can feel it in the air. After the let down of the holidays and the drama of a new year, routine has settled in. What a great time to refocus on your writing! A great way to start is to do some free writing on a different topic every day this month.
Writing Prompts for the First Week of March
March 1st – What has been the best thing that has happened to you since the start of the year?
March 2nd – What do you love most about March? What do you dislike most about March?
March 3rd – What New Year's resolution do you most regret not keeping now that we are over eight weeks into the New Year?
March 4th – What job would you least like to have and why?
March 5th – If you could belong to any group or organization, what would it be and why haven't you joined it yet?
March 6th – If you could go back to your childhood for one day, what day would you choose and what would you change about it, if anything?
March 7th – Tax season is right around the corner. What do you enjoy most about doing your taxes? (No, you can't answer "Nothing"!)
Writing Prompts for the Second Week of March
March 8th – If you had to leave all your money to a charity upon your death, which one would you choose and why?
March 9th – Tell me about your most loved piece of jewellery and explain why it is your favourite.
March 10th – Canada's Food Guide has six groups - fruits and vegetables, grain products, milk and milk alternatives, meat and meat alternatives, oils and fats, and beverages. If you could only eat only one of the food groups for the rest of March, which one would it be and why?
March 11th – If you were a speechwriter for a famous person, what person would you want to be a speechwriter for and what would the first paragraph of the speech say?
March 12th – What section of the newspaper do you like to read first and why? What section do you always skip?
March 13th – What is your favourite mode of transportation and why?
March 14th – If you could take over the role of any character in any movie, what film and actor's role would you choose?
Writing Prompts for the Third Week of March
March 15th – Would you prefer to take a trip to see Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China, or the pyramids? Why did you pick the one you chose?
March 16th – What is your biggest pet peeve of other drivers on the road? What driving habit do you believe is your worst?
March 17th – Earth is about to implode and you have to go live on one of the eight or nine (depending on which theory you believe) planets in the solar system. Which one would you choose and why?
March 18th – The Queen of England has died and you are next in line for the throne. Would you happily take over your royal duties or would you choose to abdicate the throne and step down?
March 19th – Genetically modified food is becoming more popular every day as the world struggles to feed its rapidly growing population. What are your thoughts on the safety of GMF?
March 20th – Oprah Winfrey has started her own television station, OWN. She is looking for shows to fill the time slots and wants you to host a one-hour show of your choosing. What kind of show would you produce? Detail what the topic will be.
March 21st – Everyone who lives in your area has to adopt a baby from a third world country. What country would you choose your baby to come from and why?

March 22nd – What superpower would you love to have and why?
March 23rd – If you could be a professional athlete in any sport, what sport would you choose and why?
March 24th – The government has passed a new law that one day a week you cannot work, do chores, or carry on any unnecessary tasks. How would you spend your time on that day?
March 25th – A colleague at work is being bullied by another co-wroker and has asked for your help. What will you do?
March 26th – The environment is a hot topic these days. Which environmental cause would you rally behind if you had to choose one?
March 27th – The PM of Canada has asked you to come on board and be a member of his staff. He has given you free reign in choosing what you want to do. What department would you work in?
March 28th – You have been approved for a loan to start up your own restaurant. What kind of restaurant would you open and what would be on the menu?
Writing Prompts for the End of March
March 29th – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 2.3 billion prescriptions were written last year. If you could prescribe yourself any drug, what would it be and why would you choose that one?
March 30th – You are going to audition for American Idol. What song would you choose to sing? Why did you pick that one?
March 31st – What are your writing goals going to be for the next month? What steps will you take to ensure you reach your goals?
