2011 was an exciting year for motor racing, with close battles in all the top categories. It will also unfortunately be remembered as one of the worst for fatalities, with the loss of both Dan Wheldon, centennial Indy 500 winner, and Marco Simoncelli in Moto GP.
It looks as if 2012 will be a similarly exciting one, with 20 races in F1 and many more in other formulae to keep the petrolheads and gearheads happy.
