Bill Sassani is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys backpacking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and anything else that lets him get outside. For over twelve years he has worked for several outdoor programs that serve both youth and adults, including the Boy Scouts of America, college outdoor recreation programs, and wilderness therapy.

Bill's first book A Backpacker's Guide to Philmont was recently published by Virtualbookworm.com. His work has also appeared in High Country: The Magazine of the Phimont Staff Association, and the Journal of the Wilderness Education Association. His research on evironmental values and Scouting was presented at the Coalition of Outdoor Education's annual meeting at Bradford Woods, IN. He is also the Denver Outdoor Gear Examiner for Examiner.com.

Bill has earned three Suite101 Editor's Choice Awards for his articles on Philmont Scout Ranch, Hiking The Lookout Mountain Trail, CO USA, and How to Find a Hiking or Backpacking Job.

When not outside playing Bill enjoys reading about U.S. history and writing. He holds a bachelor's degree in History from Penn State University and a Master's degree in Outdoor Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder from the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School. Bill also holds a Leave No Trace Trainer certificate from Leave No Trace, Inc.
