Bracelets

Bracelets have embellished human wrists since ancient Egypt and Africa 7,000 years ago. Early bracelets were fashioned from wood, stone, bone, and fibers. Later, bracelets comprised leather, metals, gemstones and more.

Early simple-style bangles and cuff bracelets were followed by coils, mesh and chain. Later designs include pieces carved and fashioned as images of animals, humans and plants. There are bracelets of enameling and inlay, and most recently, dangly pieces featuring charms and lockets.

Modern jewelry has been about expressing style and following fashion. However, contemporary bracelets also are worn to commemorate social or political causes or to identify information about the wearer.

Design and material choices have never more exciting and varied than today's contemporary bracelets.
