Chile
Student protests oddly reminiscent of the 1970s, miners trapped in the bowels of the earth, stunning scenery and natural resources, Chile is a fascinating place to visit and study. The nation's politics of course divides the nation right down the middle with the former Dictator Augusto Pinochet being a particularly divisive topic of conversation still. Tough times are ahead as the conservative government of Sebastian Pinera attempts to push through some overwhelmingly unpopular measures such as building new dams and power stations. Whatever the case, Chile remains a stable democracy with a steadily rising middle class.
