Come join us on a quest into the genre of Fantasy. Explore worlds of magic, dragons, wizards, elves, kings and many other fantastical things as they take us through stories of heroic adventure in other worlds or on the streets of modern day cities. If you have taken the quest before, then come take it again and learn new things.

Fantasy, as a genre is very old, going back to the times of ancient civilizations with their myths. Today it has exploded in popularity with the release of the "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" movies. The Harry Potter books have children reading in greater numbers. The genre is rapidly growing and changing every day. With the release of new movies and books appearing on the Bestseller lists, it is hard to now where to begin in the genre.

Fantasy Fiction Appreciation is a class to explore the Fantasy genre. It will cover the history of the genre, its definition and the importance of Fantasy as literature and entertainment. The course will also cover the various sub-categories in the genre such as Epic, Mythic, Arthurian and All Ages or those for young adults. I will be covering some of the authors in each of these topics. Exploring the different sub-categories and themes of the genre will bring a greater understanding of the message it is trying to convey.

This course is designed for readers of all ages and experience whether just trying the genre for the first time or have been reading it for years. Fantasy Fiction Appreciation will help you gain a broader knowledge of the genre, gain knowledge of the sub-categories to choose books to read and understand the themes those books explore.

After completing this course you should have enough knowledge to pick Fantasy to read and enjoy with appreciation. Come on the journey.
