Amador County is another great region for growing Zinfandel grapes (which is why many wineries outside Amador will purchase Amador grapes for their own Zins).

If you haven't been wine tasting in Amador, it's a great laid-back experience. The rural roads, friendly tasting rooms and Sierra foothills are a delight. Very few tasting rooms charge for tasting. . . so you will have money to purchase and take some wine home.

My personal favorite Amador winery for Zinfandel is Renwood near the town of Plymouth. There are many wineries in this area with nice signs pointing you to the different wineries. Deaver and Kelson Creeks are good stops for California style Port. Villa Toscano has a great little bistro to enjoy lunch and their Barbera is a favorite as well.

Amador County makes a great wine tasting trip where you are sure to discover a new wine that you enjoy.
