» Fort_Spunky - Twick or Tweet
Hi Anne,I very much enjoyed your story about your Halloween introduction to the budgie. Isn't it interesting how some things make such a huge impression on us as children and the memory stays with us all our lives? Your mother's friend probably had no idea what a special tweet, I mean treat, she gave you that day.
Hope things are going well for you, Pancho and Rio. Any chance of a new Bailey photo any time soon? I'd love to see that sweet baby face.
Take care,
Linda

In response to message posted by Tina_Coruth:Hi Tina,
Thanks so much for your nice comments! Yup, I've been fascinated by birds since I can remember. I guess listening to my mom's stories about her parakeet Fudge helped perk my interest, too. hehe.
My parrots love to tear into those little miniature boxes of raisins. When I had smaller birds, I opened the box for them, but they still had fun digging the raisins out!
I'll be by to visit you soon, my friend. Hope you're well! ![]()

In response to message posted by Renie_Burghardt:Hi Renie,
So you tried salting a bird's tail too, huh? Hehe! How interesting about the baby crow. Did it ever make any talking sounds? I always heard they could learn to talk.
Bailey is going to be a bumblebee. His outfit has a little stinger on the bottom. Hehehe! He's got another tooth and will be walking any day. Keeps him mom busy. ![]()
Happy Halloween to you too, my friend! Hope it's a safe one up in those woods. ![]()

Twick or tweet....hehe, that's cute!
And it was a real 'tweet' to be so close to that lady's parakeet. I remember being totally fascinated by it. I'm still so interested in birds of any kind. Got some very bossy cardinals that insist on being fed on the front porch every day. hehe!
Oh, I do have some pics of Bailey I want to post for you all to see! You're so sweet to ask. I'll get something up soon.
Hope you're well, friend Linda. And have a safe Halloween!

In response to message posted by JButler:Hi Joy,
Thanks for the visit and for the nice comments! How neat that your dad kept pigeons. They are such beautiful birds, with all those vivid, irridescent colors. And I love their voices. Thanks for telling us this story. ![]()
So you have wild birds outside your window, too, huh? Mine keep me busy, even tapping on the window if they think they need more food. hehe!
Hope you and your doggie have a fun time at the Halloween party. Don't eat too many goodies! ![]()

» Dubh_Sidhe - First Bird
Anne, this is such a delightful Halloween story of your first bird. And who would ever think that birds could be frightened on this eve. It surely never entered my mind. Your ideas are wonderful and I can see how they are very important. How lucky your feathered friends are to have you as their friend.-- posted by Dubh_Sidhe

Thanks so much for the visit and comments! Sometimes I think I'm luckier to have my feathered friends than they are to have me. hehe!
Sorry I'm so late....road construction cut all the phone lines a few days ago and I just had my service restored....argh....

» ruby - Salting Tailfeathers
I knew about salting tailfeathers from cartoons I watched when I was very young. I never tried it though. What I'd do in our old house was stack some chairs to raise myself up to the louvres above our windows. On the narrow ledges outside the louvres there'd be little birds perched there and I'd be so happy just to peek through and see their tiny legs and shiny feathers up close. Today, I watch white cranes and mallard ducks (at least, I think that's what they are) enjoying the pond across our patio. They're truly fascinating. Thanks for sharing your story, Anne!-- posted by ruby

In response to message posted by ruby:Ruby, there is also a nursery rhyme about sprinkling salt on a bird's tail feathers, but for the life of me, I cannot recall it.
