Hi Anne,

I very much enjoyed your story about your Halloween introduction to the budgie. Isn't it interesting how some things make such a huge impression on us as children and the memory stays with us all our lives? Your mother's friend probably had no idea what a special tweet, I mean treat, she gave you that day.

Hope things are going well for you, Pancho and Rio. Any chance of a new Bailey photo any time soon? I'd love to see that sweet baby face.

What a sweet Halloween story. I'm sure tearing into a box of raisins is both fun and tasty for your birds. Your love and concern for them really shines through your words. Bird lovers are a special lot. I remember how my dad loved pigeons. He had a big pen built for his. During the day they flew free but came home at night to be fed and sleep safely in their pen. My dad and I spent a lot of time watching them "prance" and coo. As I type this, I'm enjoying watching the wild birds jockey for position on the feeder just outside my window.

Thanks so much for your nice comments! Yup, I've been fascinated by birds since I can remember. I guess listening to my mom's stories about her parakeet Fudge helped perk my interest, too. hehe.

My parrots love to tear into those little miniature boxes of raisins. When I had smaller birds, I opened the box for them, but they still had fun digging the raisins out!

So you tried salting a bird's tail too, huh? Hehe! How interesting about the baby crow. Did it ever make any talking sounds? I always heard they could learn to talk.

Bailey is going to be a bumblebee. His outfit has a little stinger on the bottom. Hehehe! He's got another tooth and will be walking any day. Keeps him mom busy.

Twick or tweet....hehe, that's cute! And it was a real 'tweet' to be so close to that lady's parakeet. I remember being totally fascinated by it. I'm still so interested in birds of any kind. Got some very bossy cardinals that insist on being fed on the front porch every day. hehe!

» ruby - Salting Tailfeathers

I knew about salting tailfeathers from cartoons I watched when I was very young. I never tried it though. What I'd do in our old house was stack some chairs to raise myself up to the louvres above our windows. On the narrow ledges outside the louvres there'd be little birds perched there and I'd be so happy just to peek through and see their tiny legs and shiny feathers up close. Today, I watch white cranes and mallard ducks (at least, I think that's what they are) enjoying the pond across our patio. They're truly fascinating. Thanks for sharing your story, Anne!
