» tweet2 - New Rat

WE had one rat die and bought a new companion for our other rat. They get along great. However, we have had the rat for about for 6 weeks and she will still not let us hold her.

We have tried to have us eat out of our hand-which she will grab and take-and to pet her in the cage-we are allowed to for a small time or she will run away and hide.

I need some new suggestions. She is sweet and will greet us and come say hello and climb on the cage.

I cannot let her out because she just runs and hides.

We have started taking them into the bathroom and letting them run free there while we sit and talk or read. She is still pretty shy though.

I was told that the day we bought her she had never been handled and that she had just arrived at the store that day.

Does anyone have anything we could try?

Hope to hear back

hi there i have 7 rats and we had 1 similar to what ur describing, she was very shy and wouldnt let us hol her without trying to run off, the best thing u can do is give her time she will get to know u eventually and learn to trust you, when u get her out offer her treats and talk to her, some rats take a while to settle in, make a point of gettin her out a lot and giving her lots of attention, i hope this helps
