» chizotz - Trying to find 1977 SF Film Title

I remember seeing at least one TV commercial for an upcoming SF film sometime in 1977, and never saw the film. At almost the exact same time, commercials began airing for Star Wars, and the other film was quickly out of sight and seemingly forgotten... by everyone but me, it seems. I've been trying to discover what that film was ever since with no luck. Numerous searches on the Internet have turned up nothing that sounds right, and no other resource I've been able to locate has had the answer.

Here is what I remember. It had a lot of very glittery costumes, and "glass cave" sort of sets. One spaceship looked very similar to the spaceship that brought Superman to Earth in the original Christopher Reeve movie; a translucent "glass-like" ball with spikes. I believe it may have been a non-American film but I'm not sure why I think so (perhaps the actors were speaking with an accent of some sort), and for some reason I have it in my head that it was either French or Italian -- but this whole last bit about being a non-American film may be misleading.

Does anyone know of a film released at the same time or just weeks prior to Star Wars that might fit this description? Or at least may have had TV commercials airing at about the same time that commercials for Star Wars might have been on? It would solve one of the nagging mysteries in my life and be very appreciated if I could find out what it is that I'm remembering.

Thank you in advance for any help or ideas.
