» anewleaf - Hemlock in these times?

I couldn't help but notice this discussion involving hemlocks in eastern US. Is no one concerned with the hemlock adelgid? This critter is ripping up hemlocks in the Appalachians, moving from the Carolinas north thru the Virginias and now into the northeast.

This critter is nasty! The only defense found so far being pesticide applications. Most conservationists and foresters pretty much predict the imminent demise of hemlock in native forestlands. My concern is recommending these plants knowing they are likely to become maintenance headaches in the future.
