Forensic Anthropology

Forensic anthropology is the branch of physical anthropology which investigates decomposed remains of a victim under a legal setting. The human skeleton (osteology) and physical anthropological techniques are used to identify deceased individuals or parts of individuals whose remains are in an advanced decomposed state, or have been burned or mutilated or otherwise suffered an unknown manner of death. The adjective "Forensic" refers to the application of this subfield of science to a court of law.
