In Vitro Fertilization
In Vitro Fertilization or "IVF" refers to the process of a sperm's fertilization of an egg in a procedure that's performed outside the body. The term "in vitro" means "in glass;" it's a reference to the early days of IVF, when the eggs and sperm were paired in a test tube or petri dish. This gave rise to the term "test tube baby." The first so-called "test tube baby," Louise Brown, was born in the U.K 1978.
