Colwood
Just west of Esquimalt and south of View Royal, this community is mainly residential. It was incorporated as a city in 1985 and it is one of the fastest growing communities on the Island. Even though it's relatively new as a city, there are historical landmarks, such as Hatley Castle, dating back to the 18th century. It was once the home of Royal Roads Military School which is now a university.
Many of the attractions center on Esquimalt Lagoon. There is the university with lovely gardens, a lighthouse and a fort. The lagoon is a bird watchers paradise. There are plenty of amenities within Colwood and in neighboring districts.
