I don't know why, and I'm glad that I don't know why a few people in the project world offer the phrase best of breed as a synonym for quality.

Now, I know that this disturbing term has unfortunately found a following throughout the management kingdom, but I suppose I'm all the more resistent to it because it has wafted into the project world.

Here's a scary example of its usage (not recommended for those under 18):

We want to make sure we use ABC contracting when we get into phase nine of the project, because they're stuff is best in breed.
