Using the Wizard and Creating Charts

Make your calculations easy for others to understand by using Excel charts. The wizard makes creating professional-looking charts as easy as 1-2-3...4!

Creating charts

  • Select the cells that contain the data that you want to appear in the chart. If you want the column and row labels to appear in the chart, include the cells that contain them in the selection.
  • Click Chart Wizard

Chart Wizard – Step 1 of 4 – Chart Type

  • In the Standard Types tab, click on the Chart type and corresponding Chart sub-type (for additional types of charts click on the Custom Types tab)
  • Click on Press and Hold to View Sample to see an example of the chart type
  • Click on Next

Chart Wizard – Step 2 of 4 – Chart Source Data

  • In the Data range field, leave the data range as listed if the preview chart looks OK. To change the data and the labels for the chart, click in the Data Range box and then select the cells in your worksheet.
  • Click on Next

Chart Wizard – Step 3 of 4 – Chart Options

  • In this step you can switch on an off some of the standard options for the chart type you selected. You can change titles, axes, gridlines, legends, data labels, and data tables. Select any options you wish to change, or leave the options as they are.
  • Click on Next

Chart Wizard – Step 4 of 4 – Chart Location

  • You can place the chart on a worksheet or on its new chart sheet.
  • Type a name for a new chart sheet, or choose an existing worksheet
  • Click on Finish
