Home Design

Lesson 4: Miscellaneous Information

Final Words

Thank you for taking Suite101.com’s course on designing your own home. I hope it has allowed you to explore and develop your creative side in addition to giving you a real start on designing your own home. I am confident these new found skills will benefit you in many endeavors. My hope also is that you will return to Suite 101 for great articles and courses that will assist you in developing many new skills.

I don’t expect that you to have completed your design in these short two weeks. But it is useful to not only to follow a design through but also many times to start over with fresh eyes. In the end even if you decide to go to a custom home builder, residential designer, or architect I hope you will take your designs to them. At the very least you are an educated design consumer. The process of design is learning what you are looking for; recognizing solutions.

Thank you again, Brian J. Pilling, AIA

P.S. Here is a short list of other courses you may be interested in once your new home is constructed!

Course - Interior Decorating 101

“This course will instill in the student the confidence gained by accurate information, basic skills, design concepts and resources for further information. Armed with the tools of budgeting, layout, appropriate materials and sweat equity, the student will be able to forge ahead with that remodeling project without fear!”

Course - Faux Painting

Have you ever walked into a room that changed your whole mood? When you walked in you felt stressed and tense, but then find yourself feeling calm and relaxed. The room feels warm and comfortable or cool and serene. Look around and see what causes that effect. Most likely it's the colors and paint techniques in the room.

Course - Stenciling 101

If you've admired stenciling in magazines and books - or other people's homes - but have been afraid to try it yourself, this is the class for you.
