Sports Medicine
Sports and exercise medicine is a health care speciality dealing with medical conditions and injuries related to participation in sports and regular exercise.
Study of the causes of exercise related conditions are the basis of recommendations made for the prevention these conditions – with measures including pre-participation physical examinations; the prescription of training regimes, diets, and fluid intake and safety gear. There is also focus on emergencies which occur during sports participation such as concussions, sudden cardiac death and heat exhaustion. Treatment and rehabilitation for common sports injuries, performance medicine and exercise prescription are also within the scope of sports medicine.
