Spending up to 4 times more on a premium litter (with a premium price tag) throughout the entire lifetime of a cat is not an insignificant amount of extra expenditure.

However, there’s no doubt about it, Okocat creates some of the best litters that money can buy. The convenience of using products of this quality often times outweighs the additional costs involved – and (at least anecdotally) they make the lives of thousands of cat owners that little bit better.

Today we’re going to take a look at Okocat and their products to see exactly what you’re getting for your money. We’re going to review many of their litters in great detail to tell you what we think about them. We’re also going to discuss common complaints (and compliments) that verified customers leave in their online reviews before concluding with our overall recommendation (and a list of pros and cons).

Let’s get started.

Different Types Of Okocat Cat Litter

Firstly, we’re going to take a look at some of Okocat’s most popular cat litters on the market to see what makes them good (or not so good).

Okocat Natural Wood Clumping Cat Litter

The first litter we’re going to look at today is made from wood (like most, but not all of Okocat’s products). The wood used in the manufacture of this litter comes from sustainable recyclable wood and “wood sources” aka sawdust – so it’s good for the planet.

The wood used in Okocat’s litters is extremely absorbent, and can hold up to 500% of its own weight in moisture – and it’s virtually dust free too. There’s no harmful additives or chemicals used in the manufacture of this litter, which makes it a great safe option for those of us with sensitive cats, or those who are concerned about potentially harmful chemicals that can be found in cheaper litters.

It’s a clumping litter that Okocat proudly states “performs best in the natural litter class”.

We’re unable to say if this is definitively true or not – that’s quite a big claim. However, we can say that the clumps that are formed by this litter are strong and durable, we doubt you’d find any reason to complain about them. Once they’ve dried they stay hard and solid, and they’re not going to break apart when you’re scooping them out the tray.

This litter has odor shield technology built into it which ensures that any smells inside the clumps are locked away for up to 7 days before they need to be removed. This means you get more time with your kitty and spend less time cleaning their tray.

There’s no getting around the fact that this is an expensive product compared to some lower quality litters, but it’s also a little bit more “economical”. Pound for pound this litter will last longer than conventional litters due to how absorbent it is. It’s not enough to offset the price enough to make it comparable to a cheaper clay litter economically, but it does help mitigate the price tag slightly.

Okocat Super Soft Clumping Wood Cat Litter

This is a pellet based litter that’s been specifically designed for cats who need a little help using the litter tray. Cats that have been declawed, are a little older, or who are kittens will particularly benefit from the softness this litter provides.

The granule size has been adjusted from the product above to be much smaller, which also makes it a lot softer too. It feels a little more like natural clay than some other wood-based products – so it’s a great transition litter if you’re trying to convince your cat to like natural products instead of clay.

Apart from the difference in size and texture, there’s not much that separates this product from the one above. It has still got odor shield technology, and it’s still made from super absorbent wood that can hold up to 500% of its own weight in liquid. The clumps that form are similarly sized as the product above, and they’re not going to break down when cleaning the tray.

The only other difference that you might notice is that this product may track a little bit more than the standard Okocat product above. This is the trade-off for having a smaller softer pellet size, heavier products track less – and as this is smaller and lighter, it’s going to track more.

That being said, it’s still a reasonably low tracking product. In our opinion, a little bit of litter outside the tray is a small price to pay if it’s going to convince your cat to use the tray instead of doing their “business” somewhere else in your home.

Okocat Natural Wood Pine Cat Litter

This litter utilizes the natural properties of pine to provide additional odor control capabilities compared to Okocat’s standard products (which are already impressive).

As you may know, pine is a natural antimicrobial agent – which makes it perfect for use in cat litter. From the moment your cat’s waste hits the litter, it’s going to be attacked from all angles by the pine, which will neutralize the bacteria inside the litter that create the horrible ammonia smell.

This is a pelleted litter that’s been made from cracked pine – and despite the name, it’s actually quite a soft product to have underneath your cat’s paws. This means there’s a low chance of rejection – even if you’ve got a particularly fussy cat.

Despite being made from a different kind of wood to the products above, it’s still a superabsorbent product that can make the same 500% moisture claim as the others above and it’s virtually dust free too.

The only problem with this litter is the clumping action. Okocat claims that it has got “superior clumping action” like their other products – but after checking customer reviews, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

The clumping action is slow, weak, and the clumps that form cannot be relied upon when cleaning (and anecdotally they are said to regularly break apart).

It’s probably for this reason that it’s the cheapest product that Okocat create – and in all honesty, there’s not all that much point in buying it. The pine is a nice touch, but it’s not worth the lack of clumping – which creates much more smell than the antimicrobial agents in the pine can compensate for.

Okocat Natural Wood Long Hair Breeds Cat Litter

The final product we’re going to look at today has been specifically designed for long-haired cats. As you probably already know, tracking is a big problem for the hairiest of our feline friends.

As long haired cats have much more fur, there’s much more potential for clumps to become caught up in it. This means litter can travel on your cat far away from the tray, and there’s probably no corner of your home out of its reach.

By making the pellets in this litter larger and heavier, Okocat has solved this issue almost completely. We’re not going to sit here and tell you that you’re never going to find litter outside the tray ever again – but you’re going to notice a lot less of it.

Apart from the pellet size, there’s not much difference between this litter and the first two litters we talked about. It has been made from the same materials, it has got the same excellent absorption, and it is also almost completely dust free too.

The only potential problem with this litter is the potential chance of rejection. If you’ve got a fussy cat, the size of the pellets could be off-putting for them – which is worth bearing in mind. It’s probably a good idea to get the smallest box size of this product the first time you try it out – just to see how they react.

Okocat Cat Litter Coupons

Okocat isn’t really known for releasing coupon codes, or if they are, we couldn’t find any.

However, there are still ways you can save on your litter bill – mainly by using third-party discounts.

Online and offline stores will regularly entice new (and occasionally existing) customers with coupons that are valid for a wide range of products – and cat litter is usually one of them.

At the moment the best deal of this nature we could find was at Chewy.com who are offering a 30% discount that is applicable to Okocat litter.

Okocat Cat Litter Reviews

So now we know a little bit about Okocat’s most popular products and the kinds of things that we like and dislike about them. Now it’s time for us to see what real life paying customers think about their litter.

We’ve read through countless online reviews of all of their products from verified customers to try and find commonalities and patterns of compliments and complaints. Here are a few things we noticed:

Flushability – One of the biggest and most noticeable compliments customers gave Okocat was how all of their products are flushable. Because they are made from natural wood and they are free from chemicals, they will not damage your pipes or cause issues at the water treatment plant. The convenience of being able to flush away your cat’s waste is something that needs to be experienced to be fully understood. Once you try it, you’re never going to be able to return to putting litter in the bin.

Dust – The super low dust nature of these products was also something that many people liked to comment on. It’s amazing how much of a difference to cleanliness having a low dust litter in your tray can make. Additionally, cleaning, filling, and pouring litter are much more “enjoyable” tasks when you’ve not got to hold your breath to avoid breathing in a cloud of dusty litter.

Price – There were obviously many comments about the price of Okocat’s litters, however many of them seemed to be quite positive. They often talked about how much longer each pound of litter lasted compared to clay products. Customers often thought that despite being more expensive, it was excellent value for money considering the other benefits the litter provided.

Note: The only exception to this was the pine litter, which people thought was overpriced considering the reasonably poor performance it provides.

Eco-Friendly – As you may already know, digging huge amounts of clay out of the ground is a resource intensive heavy industrial process that’s bad for the planet. Many customers liked the fact that they are doing their little part to reduce their personal impact on the environment by choosing a renewable wood-based product instead. It’s also a compostable litter, which many people remarked on – but we’re unsure if they actually compost it, or just flush it down the toilet.

Pro’s And Con’s

  • An eco-friendly product that doesn’t harm the environment
  • Flushable litters are much more convenient
  • Very low dust formulas
  • Lasts longer pound for pound compared to other litters
  • Great odor control
  • Excellent clumping action
  • Can be composted as it’s biodegradable

  • They’re not exactly cheap products
  • The pine product was not very well received

Is Okocat Cat Litter Good For Multiple Cats?

No, none of Okocat’s products have been rated for use in a multi-cat household. If you’ve got more than one kitty, you’re going to need to look at other brands.

So there you have it, that’s what we think about Okocat – one of the most expensive yet advanced brands of litter on the market.

There’s no getting around the fact that these are premium products with premium price tags, but we feel they’re exceptionally good value for money. The amount of convenience and performance they provide will be noticeable in your day to day life, and if you can afford them – they are more than worthy of your consideration.
